WASHINGTON, February 23, 2010—As part of our global mission to help communities worldwide improve their health care systems, Mahn Healthcare partnered with Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) and their Allied Health Science students to engage the local communities of Maua and Meru, Kenya. Specifically, Mahn Healthcare provided Technical Assistance (TA) from September 15 – September 22, 2009 to the partnership team of KeMU http://www.kemu.ac.ke/ and Shalom Outreach http://www.shalomoutreach.org/welcome.php to ensure the success of their first-ever mobile medical clinic in Maua and Meru, Kenya.
We began our work by helping to solidify the logistics of the mobile clinics based on existing knowledge of Kenyan medical models and the medical supply delivery system. Based on that information, we designed a plan of action for supply chain management, clinic delivery mechanisms, and clinic support structures for future mobile clinics. The mobile clinics, for which we provided TA were stocked by over 40 boxes of donated medical supplies and medicines.
The clinic sites were Meru (Site 1) and Maua (Site 2) Elementary Schools. On the first day of the clinic, we successfully provided services for over 1200 people at Site 1. On the second day, we provided services for over 1500 people at Site 2. Our work with the Kenyan team resulted in a comprehensive model for the execution of mobile medical clinics without further assistance from outside groups! We are honored to have participated in and contributed to such a visionary process.
